There are plenty day trips when choosing Crete. For example, we decided to go to an island off the coast of Crete, called Spinalonga. Today Spinalonga is mainly known as the Leper Island, because it was a leper colony from 1903 until 1957. The boats depart regularly from Agios Nikolaos, Elounda and Plaka and the ticket costs 10 euros.
Unfortunately, our expectations were higher than what we found there, but it might have been interesting for those who were passionate about history. Anyway, we enjoyed the long ride of approximately 1.30 minutes until we got to Elounda, because we wandered at the speechless landscapes. On our return, we decided to stop by Agios Nikolaos, due to several recommendations from the receptionist. Moreover, the bus driver was surprisingly nice and he guided us in going to Ammoudi ( https://www.facebook.com/aktiammoudi), a fancy beach club, where the music and the services match perfectly with the view.
